The phrasal verb go out only has a small number of different meanings. For example, the light could go out just as you’re reading a book, or you could go out with your girlfriend for many years before you ask her to marry you. There are many other ways that you can use the words ‘go’ + ‘out’, but where these words retain their separate (inherent) meanings, this is not the phrasal verb ‘go out’.
