give it a try/you should give it a shot
This phrase often refers to something you wouldn't normally do, or it is used to encourage someone, or to talk about doing something for the first time. If you 'give something a go' or 'a try' you intend to experience it for a short time to decide whether you like it, or see if it works for you: “I was thinking of giving yoga a try.” “You should give this medicine a try, it helped me with the same problem.” This is a casual phrase used in social and professional contexts. Similar phrases include ‘give it a go’, or ‘try it out’.
