Finance - Why Do You Want This Job?

Answer

I've been interested in working for The Finance Company since I was in college, as you are such a well-respected and reputable company. I've been following your success for the past couple of years and I firmly believe that this is where I can grow in Finance. I watched in admiration as you guys achieved your highest ever revenue back in 2016, which also broke the record for annual profits in Europe. I knew then that this was the company I had to work for as I want to learn from the best in the business and this is just the place.

I have seen the career pathway first hand, because a close friend of my family moved up through the ranks with you guys and is still here today. He advised me of the ins and outs of his job and I'm intrigued by the level of professionalism amongst staff members. I want to be part of that.

I'm extremely interested in the audit processes that you're externally contracted to. Audits are something of a specialty to me, as this is where my attention to detail and analytical skills really shine. I enjoy reading between the lines to find discrepancies as this is my strongest suit.

The Interviewee starts in a very direct manner. They let the employer know that they had been keeping a close eye on the Company's progress over the years, which shows how interested the Interviewee is in working with them. They also mentioned a milestone achieved by the company a few years back - something the company would be proud of and they would enjoy hearing about it again.

Next up, the Interviewee moves on to the issue of career progression in the company. They let the employer know of their connection to the company through a family friend and that he had moved up the ladder with them. The friend had described how professional the company are and the Interviewee made sure to get this across to the Employer. The Interviewee is showing great enthusiasm so far and making a lasting impression.

They complete their answer by mentioning an aspect of the role they're very interested in. The Interviewee once again demonstrated how much research they did for the interview when mentioning audits. They also used this as an opportunity to showcase one or two of their skills - great idea!

Overall, if I were the employer, I would think the Interviewee came across likeable. They made sure to touch on the important details while covering a researched story, highlighting a close connection to the company; eagerness to grow within the company; and enthusiasm for how the company operate. Well planned out.
