How to Job Search Successfully

Job Search Methods

So, what method of job search would we suggest? We would strongly recommend using the Internet as your main job-searching tool.

Here is a list of three different job-searching methods:

  • Online Job-searching - Job-searching websites, Recruitment Agency websites, Social Media platforms and Business Networking websites.
  • National Newspapers and Radio advertising.
  • Word of Mouth and Networking - employee referrals. Speak to friends and family. Enquire in companies for potential vacancies.

When it comes to online job-searching, you need to find the best job search engines appropriate to your country. If you can find websites that focus solely on your job field, then you're on to a winner. If not, use job search websites that cover every job field in your general area. Compile a list of recruitment companies that cover the area where you would be happy to accept a job and then register with these agencies. This will give you more sets of eyes keeping a look out for vacancies matching your skills and abilities. Trawl through Social Media sites like Twitter and Facebook and career-orientated Social-Networking websites like LinkedIn and Xing and search for vacancies in the industry you're interested in; or go straight for the website of the company you would like to work for and see if there are any vacancies available.

When it comes to national newspapers and radio advertising, ensure that you read and listen carefully for how the Employer would like to receive applications (they might request them by post or electronically). Ensure that you have taken note of this with a potential vacancy, as your application will be deemed invalid if you send it by the wrong method. Radio stations can offer valuable information on vacancies, but most of the time they are few and far between. Listen back to podcasts if possible and go on to radio station websites, as more information is usually offered there.

When you find a vacancy to apply to, you should check out our write-ups on The Cover Letter, The CV and The Personal Profile as they will be extremely helpful in your next step in the application process.

Best of luck from all of us here at EnglishLogica.
