How to Use the Past Simple Tense

Even if you want to talk about something you did every day in the Past, you treat this as a single action that happened on a regular basis. For example, I walked to school every day. This is because you are focusing on a reoccurring completed action. In this case, your Reference Point (R) is a completed action that happened repeatedly in the past (Diagram 3):

No matter what information we add, the Core Characteristic of the Past Simple remains the same, as we can see from our Reference Points.
