we need to put a system of checks and balances in place
In a system with checks and balances, power is distributed among different departments or people to prevent any one department or person from becoming overly powerful. It is a proven safeguard that is used by companies and governments alike to prevent unilateral action being taken by a rogue element which could have serious, wide-ranging repercussions. It also ensures that different departments or sections can regulate each others actions and remain in regular contact.
