Potential is an adjective and a noun used to say that something or someone has the capacity or ability to develop or transform in some way. You can talk about potential clients or the potential for someone to succeed for example. If you say that someone has the potential to do something you are saying that the possibility is there that they may do it. Something that has potential is possible but is not yet real. In physics and science potential refers to electric potential were at the possibility of something creating a reaction.
